On February 16th last year (where does the time go!) Upcycled Creative became winners of a business incentive on Twitter by multi-millionaire and former ‘Dragon’ Theo Paphitis.
We received our winning status through #SBS (Small Business Sunday), an ingenious idea by Mr P to help small to medium sized, developing businesses such like ourselves to grow, network and receive the recognition we deserve.
A year later, almost to the day of our win, we were invited to attend the annual #SBS event held at the impressive International Convention Centre in Birmingham. This would be an opportunity to meet other #SBS winners, talk to ‘big brand’ professionals such as members of Theo’s empire including Rymans Stationery and get to meet the man himself whilst receiving our certificate of recognition and saying ‘cheese’ for the camera.
An impressive turnout of winners and their guests gathered for a complimentary cuppa and a spot of informal networking. This was a great opportunity to spark conversation, make contacts, talk about of course how we became winners and also speculate as to what the day had in store.
After a welcome and introduction to the day, a sneak preview began, presented by Theo as to a new and exciting opportunity that will be available for the #SBS community. You’ll have to watch this space for more information as it’s all tip top secret at the moment, but as part of our new blogging strategy, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Let’s digress for just one moment. We mention above about our new blogging strategy. This is something that Upcycled Creative have been thinking about for a while, and we thought what better way to get back on the blog wagon than to start with such a pivotal time in our business journey. We know that we have lots of exciting news to share, so keep checking in with us to find out the latest going forward.
Think of the above digression as the ‘Lunch break’ break at the event. Tasty snacks provided and a further chance to network, we’ll now get back to the afternoon session.
How many people/business owners/entrepreneurs can say that they’ve had the chance to sit in front of a panel with Theo Paphitis being a member and participate in a Q&A session? (Lee Richards Creative Director of Upcycled Creative can!) What a fantastic opportunity to gain insight and knowledge from such a credible entrepreneur, and not only was this information available from Theo, he was also joined by Holly Tucker from Not on the High Street and Mike Pickles from Very Useful Products. An abundance of information and experience available for us to ask advice, challenge and consider.
A thoroughly engaging and thought provoking day was had by all.
Now with our Certificate framed and photograph in printing, Upcycled Creative will be displaying these with a sense of pride inside our new location at Markeaton Park Craft Village. We’ve just moved up to larger premises so that we can display all of our wonderful creations and visitors can take a look at their leisure, with of course an opportunity to purchase any of our unique items.
If you would like to connect with us, why not follow us on Twitter @reupcycled, after all... great things happen when you take the time to tweet.
