Success at the Rural Business Awards
The awards ceremony took place at the University of Nottingham when winners were chosen from 11 different categories. With so much excellent competition from other rural businesses in the region, we were delighted to be named as winner of the ‘Best Rural Creative, Artisan or Crafts Business’ in the Midlands. It wasn't something we were expecting so when Upcycled Creative was announced we were shocked to say the least!
Our business is based in the small rural market town of Wirksworth from where we are proud to offer our high quality repurposed products that we export all over the world. On the edge of the Peak District, Wirksworth is a popular destination with its strong community spirit and varied events throughout the year. We moved to the town to be part of this vibrant community and soon joined with the other local independent retail traders to support each other and breathe renewed life into the rural high street. With the opening of The Coffee Bunker to complement Upcycled Creative we have become another hub in the town for residents and visitors alike.
Perhaps our rural focus is most clearly evident in some of the products we sell. We regularly purchase items from rural businesses including farms to repurpose into furniture and lighting products. Old seats from tractors become trendy industrial seating, tractor wheels and cable drums are turned into tables and milk churns become stools. Equally important are the rural businesses we support through The Coffee Bunker as the majority of our food and drink products including light bites and delicious lunches are supplied by local rural businesses.
The Rural Business Awards evening also provided us with a fantastic opportunity to meet the other finalists and find out about their businesses, each with their own successes and challenges. Another five award ceremonies will follow and these will see winning businesses selected from the North, South East, South West, East, and Wales & Northern Ireland regions.
All the regional winners will then go forward to the Rural Business Awards National Final when the overall winner will be announced in Manchester at the end of February. We wish all the businesses involved the very best of luck and will be keeping our own fingers crossed! #RBA’s
